Celtic ’embarrassment’ as rival club uncover ‘secret’ clause

Mathias Kvistgaarden was formerly a Celtic target, but Norwich has since acquired him after reportedly finding a hidden buyout provision in his contract.

The Danish striker has been pursued by the Hoops since last year, but other teams have also expressed interest.

With Brendan Rodgers searching for explosive firepower throughout this window, it appeared like the 23-year-old’s departure from Brondby was finally imminent.

But it was revealed in the past few days that Kvistgaarden had decided to go to Norwich City next.

The Canaries have now confirmed the Denmark international as their latest signing in an announcement this afternoon.

Additionally, it appears that the English Championship team may have stolen a march by catching Celtic and other interested teams off guard.

This is because, according to Anthony Joseph, a reporter for Sky Sports, they uncovered a minimum fee release provision that was unknown to other clubs.

When all the sums that were previously being bandied about were much higher, Norwich paid a great deal of £6.9 million.

When questioned about this, Joseph responded, “Norwich found a release clause in his contract that no other club was aware of.” What a coup. And the other clubs that have been negotiating with Brondby have been quite embarrassed.”
