The shared message from the Blackpool squad that should give supporters a reason to get excited
Ahead of the 2025–2026 League One season, Blackpool has made a few wise decisions.
Blackpool has a positive attitude going into the upcoming season.
So far this summer, the Seasiders have made some good decisions at Bloomfield Road, both on and off the pitch.
Five new players have been added, and they will compete for a spot in Steve Bruce’s starting lineup right away.
Both Fraser Horsfall and Franco Ravizzoli competed at the top of the League One table, while Michael Ihiekwe and George Honeyman come from the Championship, where they played in the most recent season.
Since Niall Ennis scored seven goals in Tangerine during a loan stint in the second half of last season, when the team finished in ninth place, the Seasiders are obviously aware of what they’re receiving.
Ennis shares team desire
The 26-year-old knows what to anticipate from playing under Bruce, and he stated in an interview conducted last week in Spain that the new players had a specific reason for moving to the Fylde Coast.
“If we didn’t want to achieve our goals, we wouldn’t be here,” he stated.
Given how the last season concluded, we are aware that getting the minimum in the playoffs is the next stage. More signings will be entering the building, and our team’s strength will only help us.
‘Minimum’ target common theme
Reaching the top six is the lowest of their aspirations going into the year, according to a clear and unambiguous message from the Blackpool locker room.
Hayden Coulson also described the Seasiders’ goals in a different interview conducted at the team’s training camp abroad.
He said, “I think the additions we’ve made this season will get us over the line.”
“The acquisitions are all excellent additions that will raise the bar, and the summer has been going well thus far. All we have to do is keep going and support the management to see where we can go.
“We just need to win the games to get up there, so I think the playoffs are the bare minimum we should aim for.”
Signings arrive with real purpose
The new hires have also been persuaded of the potential at Bloomfield Road, and the project is sufficient to convince them to make a shift.
After his arrival, Honeyman declared, “It’s really exciting, we’re going to be really competitive – there’s a reason a manager like Steve Bruce is in League One, and that’s because he knows he can get promoted, and that’s ultimately why I’m here.”
“I want to play for Blackpool in the Championship, and I’m here to get us promoted.”
“I didn’t really need convincing about the project when Steve Bruce is ringing me everyday to tell me how much he wants me and what we can do as a club. It didn’t take too much convincing on that side of things.
“I know we’re going to be competitive, and the faith they’ve shown in me is fantastic – I’m looking forward to repaying it.”
Meanwhile, Michael Ihiekwe shared the same sentiment after the conclusion of his deal with Sheffield Wednesday.
When I first met Steve Bruce, it was a huge deal for me to collaborate with someone like him, the defender said. “You’d be foolish not to listen to other clubs and their pitches,” he said.
He gave me an overview of the club, its goals, and its strategies. That was at the top of my list right away. He was a significant change agent.
I’m still hoping we can play in the league above because I want to be ambitious. At this level, a solid backbone is essential, and the team is excellent right now.
“I’m hoping we can start the season strong, make a few smart changes, and then move on.”
