Exclusive: Blackburn Rovers backed to strike £2.5m Sheffield Wednesday deal – He would be “a strong signing”

Like his predecessors in the Rovers dugout, Ismael will need to be resourceful and astute in order to make ends meet

on a tight transfer budget from the Venky’s, whose recent financial troubles have made things more difficult in East

Lancashire.

Ismael, who started to settle into Blackburn towards the end of the previous season after a terrible start after being

brought in to replace former boss John Eustace following his contentious move to Championship rival Derby County,

will not have an easy time navigating this summer’s transfer window.

Blackburn eventually finished the campaign just one place and two points shy of a top-six finish in seventh position

and will be looking to build upon that near-miss, but have already faced setbacks this summer, with both Danny

Batth and Andi Weimann leaving at the end of their respective contracts to join Eustace at Derby alongside Tyrhys

Dolan’s exit.

After a drawn-out drama, Dolan’s contract expired at the end of last month. The winger is currently weighing his

options and has reportedly drawn interest from Bristol City, Derby, and Middlesbrough in addition to teams in

Greece and Turkey. If the 24-year-old decides to sign with a domestic team, Rovers will receive a far larger

compensation payment, which they are entitled to because of his age. They might then use those monies to make a

bid for Wednesday winger Gassama.

As per a recent report from The Sun’s Alan Nixon – via his exclusive Patreon service – Blackburn have lodged an

enquiry but are yet to agree a fee for Gassama, who is valued in the region of £2.5 million by Wednesday as they look

to sanction high-profile sales to bring funds into the club amid their alarming state of financial disarray under

Dejphon Chansiri.

Lee Hendrie backs Blackburn Rovers to seal £2.5m Djeidi Gassama, Sheffield Wednesday transfer deal

Hendrie has pushed Blackburn to sign Gassama, a thrilling French wide player who is an obvious and equivalent

replacement for the departing Dolan, according to an exclusive interview with Football League World.

Hendrie thought Gassama would be a “strong signing” and praised the 21-year-old’s quickness and vigour in the

closing third.

Many people think a £2.5 million investment would be a true coup in the short and long term. Gassama, who joined

Wednesday from French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, scored seven Championship goals

the previous season and has a reputation as an extremely entertaining and effective dribbler.

Hendrie said FLW, “Blackburn will be looking at players because it looks like Dolan is going to go.”

“Gassama would be a great addition, and he is [available] for £2.5 million.

After observing his ability to carry the ball up the pitch and his occasional rawness, you get the impression that they

will need to replace Dolan, and he would be a fantastic successor.

“If not, a good addition to Blackburn’s squad because I think any player that has that pace, energy and drive brings

out a difference in teams. He could be a real strong addition for Rovers.”

Sheffield Wednesday’s Djeidi Gassama could net Blackburn Rovers a serious cash windfall

Blackburn would undoubtedly be making a commitment if they were to make a deal for Gassama, and they stand to

gain a great deal from the transaction both now and down the road.

Following a steady, if unimpressive, start to his career at Hillsborough, Gassama, who is 21 years old, is already one

of the Championship’s more dangerous wide players. If he keeps improving his final ball, some believe he could be a

significant asset.

The fact that Gassama only contributed one goal in 24/25 indicates that he has to be more creative, but seven goals

from out wide against a mid-table team is incredible, and he has started to combine his thrilling speed with end

product.

In the years to come, Gassama could quite well become one of the standout attacking starlets in the Championship

and beyond, and £2.5 million may just be a bargain fee to secure his services.
