‘Contract ‘offered’—Wolves race to sign U19 Euros winner in £10m transfer boost for Sunderland
This summer, Wolverhampton Wanderers are allegedly in the running to sign custodian Joeri Heerkens from Sparta
Prague.
The Old Gold are committed to raising the calibre of their goalkeeping staff and are probably going to sell at least one
of Daniel Bentley and Sam Johnstone this summer. Wolves can yet improve their alternatives even though Vitor
Pereira has stated that Jose Sa is his first choice custodian.
According to a Czech publication, Wolves are closely monitoring Heerkens in light of this. The 19-year-old, who was
a star player as the Netherlands won the UEFA European U19 Championships in Romania, is being pursued by a
number of clubs, including Wanderers.
Dutch powerhouse Ajax Amsterdam and rising Serie A powerhouse Como are two of the strong rivals vying for
Heerkens’ services. De Telegraaf claims that a five-year contract is already on the table, indicating that Ajax is also
showing interest. If Wolves want to sign Heerkens instead, they will need to move quickly.
Sunderland boosted by Wolves’ goalkeeper pursuit

custodian, for that matter. Johnstone, who cost £10 million to buy from Crystal Palace last summer, might find it
simpler to leave Wolves if they brought in a new custodian.
According to reports, Sunderland is considering a loan deal for Johnstone because they are keen to add a player who
can challenge current number one Anthony Patterson. Djordje Petrovic of Chelsea and other goalkeepers have also
been mentioned.
Goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler is said to be heavily involved in the Black Cats’ interest as the former Wolves man,
who recently moved to Sunderland to work under Regis Le Bris, has worked with Johnstone twice before. Cutler
coached the shot-stopper at both Aston Villa and Wolves and was seriously impressed with his work. A reunion could
now be on the cards on Wearside.
Nelson Semedo’s situation is still unresolved
In other Wolves news, captain Nelson Semedo is now officially out of contract but his future is still uncertain.
Birmingham World understands Wanderers have offered the right-back a generous four-year deal that he’s still yet
to turn down or accept.
With so much interest from all around Europe, including Turkey, Spain, and his own Portugal, it currently appears
more likely that Semedo will depart than remain. Though nothing is official at this time, it is believed that Semedo
has recorded a farewell video on the Molineux pitch in anticipation of a possible exit.
Semedo is one of the most dependable right-backs in the Premier League and a vital leader in the locker room, so his
departure would be a huge blow to Wolves. The 31-year-old, who just won the UEFA Nations League for the second
time with Portugal, is nearing the end of his playing days and might not have many more chances to move to a bigger
club.
