Insight on new Norwich City signing Mathias Kvistgaarden

Mathias Kvistgaarden arrives at Norwich City as a more complete player than Teemu Pukki when he made the same switch in the summer of 2018.

That is the verdict of Brondby fan and Vilfort Park editor-in-chief Toke Theilade watched both during their spells in Denmark as Kvistgaarden makes the switch to Carrow Road in a deal worth an initial £6.9m.

The Danish football expert is anticipating the 23-year-old to become a success in yellow and green, backing him to follow in Pukki’s footsteps.

“I think Kvistgaarden is actually, what he has shown during the last seasons here, a more complete player than Pukki. His ability and what he can do on the pitch is more impressive. Pukki was really good, with a great mentality, always pressing, fighting hard, and a good finisher.

“Kvistgaarden is a more complete player. He can play more roles. He can do more with the ball, more without the ball,” he said.

“He’s faster. He is a better finisher, better with the ball as a dribbler and better at setting up his teammates. He’s coming to Norwich, three or four years younger than Pukki was at the time he moved to England.

“I was also comparing a lot of seasons for all of Brondby’s top scorers for the past 30 years, and only three players have had a better season measured in goals per minute than Kvistgaarden.

“It really is up there with the best season for a Brondby striker ever. So it was historic what he did.”

One aspect of Kvistgaarden’s game Norwich and Liam Manning will be keen to solve is his injury record, which has prevented progress at Brondby.

The full-throttled nature of his game has contributed to his body breaking down, which is a red flag heading into a more congested and relentless Championship schedule with the Canaries.

“He has also struggled a lot with injuries. That’s why he’s not going to a bigger club. I did a calculation the other day, and I think he’s missed around 15 matches over the last two years alone.

“The physicality of what happens on the pitch, he will be able to deal with,” Theilade said.
