Scott Parker is trying desperately to hold onto Burnley’s promotion hero despite his temptation to transfer to the lucrative MLS.

After finishing second in the Championship last season, Burnley earned automatic promotion to the Premier League, tying league winners Leeds United on points. Their outstanding defence set the groundwork for their successful season, as they set a new English League record for giving up the fewest goals (16) in a 46-game season.
The fans chose Maxime Esteve as Player of the Season, while Josh Brownhill, their captain, who was instrumental in their promotion, was also a standout choice. MLS powerhouse Toronto FC has made an attempt to sign Brownhill, one of the most sought-after free-agent midfield players in Europe, according to TBR Football main journalist Graeme Bailey.
Although Brownhill’s contract with Burnley, who was promoted to the Premier League, has expired, manager Scott Parker is keen to retain his captain. With 18 goals in the Championship, the 29-year-old finished as the Clarets’ leading scorer, only one goal behind Joel Piroe, the league’s top scorer. He finished the season with 24 goal contributions in 44 games, including six assists.
The statistics demonstrate why Brownhill is a sought-after player, but Parker is unwilling to let go of his best player, particularly now that they will be competing in the Premier League. Rival Premier League teams, as well as teams from Italy, Germany, Turkey, and the Saudi Pro League, have expressed interest, according to TBR Football.
However, we are aware that Toronto, which prioritises players in their prime, made a big move in acquiring Brownhill. After moving on from the Lorenzo Insigne-Federico Bernardeschi era, which was anything but successful, Toronto has space to work and an available designated player spot on their team. They are currently focussing on players that are at the top of their game, and Brownhill is a good fit.
According to TBR Football, Toronto executives have flown to England to present their concept to Brownhill, and they have prepared a sizable offer for the player that is nearly £20 million. Although Brownhill has not yet made a decision regarding his future, the former Manchester United youngster is now seriously considering moving to Canada. Given what Brownhill contributes to the squad, it is not surprising that Parker does not want to lose him.
On the last day of the season, Brownhill, who has been linked to Tottenham in the past, scored twice to lead his team to a 3-1 victory over Millwall. Parker talked about his star captain after the game and showered him with praise. “But this game [against Millwall] probably embodied Browny,” he continued. He scores two goals and the one that puts us back in the game at 1-1, and we win 3-1.
“The greatest compliment I can offer Browny is that, in my opinion, you guys and the spectators alike see him every time he steps onto the football pitch. However, this man has strong qualities, is an incredible professional, and has been a key contributor to the atmosphere we aimed to establish in the locker room. He has been an authentic leader and captain of our team, and he has played a significant role in the reasons we have taken the actions we have. His objectives also reflect that.
