QPR are in talks with Championship rivals Leicester City over a member of coaching staff.
Leicester City are ‘negotiating’ with QPR to bring a staff member to the King Power Stadium to work alongside Marti Cifuentes, should the Catalan be appointed at the recently relegated Premier League club.
Cifuentes had become the frontrunner to replace Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy at Leicester City. Cifuentes left Loftus Road by mutual consent at the end of June following an extended period of gardening leave.
The ex QPR head coach had been temporarily relieved of his duties prior to the final fixture of the Championship season after reports that his representatives had engaged in talks with West Brom over a new opportunity. Ryan Mason has since taken over at The Hawthorns but a vacancy remains at Leicester City following Van Nistelrooy’s sacking last month.
Leicester City look to appoint Marti Cifuentes
Cifuentes enjoyed a largely successful tenure at QPR, saving the club from relegation in the 2023/24 season. There was a remarkable run of form during the mid part of the campaign last time out, which saw the R’s touted as play off candidates, but that momentum fell away towards the end of the season.

talkSPORT reported on Tuesday that Cifuentes had become the frontrunner to replace Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy at Leicester City. Cifuentes left Loftus Road by mutual consent at the end of June following an extended period of gardening leave.

Former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder and ex Wolves boss Gary O’Neil were both in the running to land the post at the King Power Stadium, with ex Everton man Sean Dyche also said to have held discussions. However, it is Cifuentes who appears to have beaten the competition.

talkSPORT adds that Cifuentes is set to earn less than he did at QPR when taking on the role, which could come as a result of compensation due to the London outfit. As terms of the mutual separation agreement reached with Cifuentes, QPR are said to have inserted a clause that means compensation will be payable when he lands his next job at another club or international team.
QPR in negotiations with Leicester City over Xavi Calm
Cifuentes will be tasked with an immediate return to the Premier League at Leicester City and wants to do that alongside former QPR assistant Xavi Calm, who remains at Loftus Road. Transfer specialist Pete O’Rourke took to social media platform X on Tuesday and wrote: “Leicester are negotiating with QPR for the release of assistant boss Xavier Calm who was assistant to Martí Cifuentes at Loftus Road with the duo set to link up again at the King Power.”
