Supporters’ reactions to Sheffield Wednesday’s most recent announcement have been somewhat conflicting.

Since Sheffield Wednesday is still subject to a transfer ban, players departing has been the main focus at the moment.

Exits are beginning to occur, and owner Dejphon Chansiri was preparing a “fire sale” to raise money to improve the club’s financial status.

It is currently believed that personal terms have been agreed upon, and Djeidi Gassama is on the verge of joining Rangers.

In other news, Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton are negotiating restitution for Sutura Kakay.

Romario Collins is also a target for Manchester City, and a deal is rumoured to be near.

A player will now remain at Sheffield Wednesday past this summer, even if exits are the main focus.

The club confirmed recently that striker George Brown has extended his contract with them.

Fans have now been reacting to the news on social media, with a lot of different messages sent.

One fan wrote: “Well Done lad. #Chansiriout”.

“I like the sound of young ones, but please announce we’re selling and Powell is staying,” someone else retorted.

In the meantime, a number of supporters think the youthful players will now play for the first team in 2025–2026.

“He’s going to be playing all season bro,” said a third.

According to another Sheffield Wednesday supporter, “first team football beckons.”

Calls to “sell the club” were also common, and one fifth supporter insisted, “Congratulations, George.” In other news, please remove Chansiri from our club!

While another somberly tweeted: “About the best we can hope for. Players that are nowhere near ready being thrown into the first team next season thanks to that clown Chansiri.”

George Brown on staying at Sheffield Wednesday

Brown made 27 appearances for the Yorkshire outfit during 2024/25.

He excelled in the Professional Development League and has now commented on his new deal with the club.

Brown said: “I’m very pleased.  Obviously being here last year, I got to know the club and the lads here and staying is definitely something I wanted to do.

“I played a lot of minutes last season and wanted to earn a new contract. I just wanted to focus on playing as much as possible and help the team.

“Being a professional was a big change and initially shocking, but in a positive way! Everything increases, including your playing style and degree of intensity.

“Getting into the first team and training with them as much as possible is everyone’s goal. I want to perform to the best of my abilities.

It feels like home to me, and I’ve developed some incredible friends with the guys and instructors.

“Watching guys who took the initiative shows that you can succeed if you put in the necessary effort, and that’s what I’m aiming for.”
