West Brom could repeat their Maja magic by signing EFL star for £0

The decision to hire the 33-year-old rookie manager is a daring move that might perhaps benefit the Baggies, but he

will have challenges right away because players like Grady Diangana, who had been a fixture at the Hawthorns for a

while, are leaving.

The former Tottenham Hotspur coach has received support after those high-profile departures partly soured the

atmosphere. Most notably, Aune Heggebo left Brann behind for a sum of approximately £4.7 million to join the

Championship team.

The additions up top might not grind to a halt here, however, despite the Nordic striker’s lavish fee, as more

attacking signings look to be prioritised.

West Brom’s next moves in the market

Diangana isn’t the only notable name in attack that could desert the Hawthorns, with Mikey Johnston still likely

despondent after a £5m move to Flamengo fell through at the last minute.

In order to strengthen this weak left-hand side, Spurs youngster Mikey Moore may be on West Brom’s shopping list.

However, Heggebo may soon face competition up top if the West Midlands team is successful in acquiring an EFL-

experienced striker at no cost.

Rhian Brewster is not likely to sign a new contract with his present employer, Sheffield United, according to a recent

report by the Sheffield Star. This means that a suitor could potentially get the former Liverpool forward for nothing.

The Star further indicates that Sunderland are looking at the hit-and-miss Blades striker, but a report

by SportsBoom right at the start of July also suggested that the Baggies were keen on a move for the free agent.

This interest might well accelerate back into motion now this exclusive development has come to light, with West

Brom perhaps eager to work their Josh Maja magic again on the former Blades number seven in unearthing a

goalscoring diamond in the rough.

How West Brom can work their Maja magic on Brewster

Prior to becoming West Brom’s top offensive option, Maja had endured a lot throughout his frequently difficult

playing career.

Maja, a former Nigerian international, first caught the attention of English football fans while advancing through the

ranks at Sunderland. He scored a promising seven goals in 29 Sunderland U23 appearances before stepping it up

even more when he scored 17 goals in the senior squad.

But after he left the comforts of the Stadium of Light, his injury-plagued stint at Bordeaux began to fall apart, and he

struggled to establish himself again in England with teams like Fulham and Stoke City.

With a remarkable return of 12 goals in Championship competition last season, West Brom has once again been able

to get the most out of the unfortunate 26-year-old, although he still frequently spends a lot of time in the treatment

room.

Given that Maja, 25, once had the world at his feet while leading the line for Liverpool in the U23 scene, Brewster’s

journey is very comparable to Maja’s. However, Brewster later discovered that the men’s game was a harsh beast.

Despite a string of injury-plagued seasons in South Yorkshire, he has subsequently recovered, and last season he

contributed a promising seven goals, earning praise from his then-Blades manager Chris Wilder for his tenacity.

If a deal is finalised, he might be Mason’s very own Maja-like project. The forward, who was born in London, is

remarkably ahead of his Nigerian counterpart in terms of second-tier goals scored, with 18 goals to far, second only

to Maja’s 15.

It will be hoped that Brewster, who missed just seven games due to injury last season, can go back to his former Reds

magic, which allowed him to score a scorching 13 U23 goals at Anfield. If he can, it might lead to a promotion in the

senior league.
