As the T20 Blast group stages draw to a close, Lancashire T20 skipper Keaton Jennings is looking forward to the first of two Roses matches against “old foe” Yorkshire.
The Lightning’s loss against the Bears at Edgbaston on Wednesday dropped them to second place in the North Group with four games left.
However, they have two games left against Yorkshire, who are in seventh place and almost eliminated from the quarterfinals.
Six days later, at Headingley, Jennings expects his squad to make a comeback at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday night (19:00 BST).
“You’re flying if you win both of those games, and you want to win both anyway because it’s the old foe,” he said outside on BBC Radio Lancashire.
About 17,000 tickets have been sold by Lancashire so far for what is still one of the most important county cricket meetings.
Given that the fixture has been rained off in each of the last two years, they are relieved that the weather forecast is similarly favourable.
“It’s an exciting day – touch wood, the weather is set fair after the last few years – so [we’re] keen to go and play some really good cricket,” Jennings added.
“These are two of the biggest games, generally sell-out crowds and loads of niggle in it, so we’re really excited to play them.”
Lancashire is in a strong position to qualify for the knockout rounds for an eighth consecutive season, which is a record no other county can equal, despite the defeat at Edgbaston.
However, considering that they can rely upon England white-ball stars Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Saqib Mahmood, and Luke Wood, they have greater goals in mind.
“When you look at the quality of cricketer in that room, it’s sensational,” Jennings remarked.
“Although it doesn’t occur frequently, it does carry the pleasant promise of victory.
“It’s nice to walk into a room with so many international caps and bounce ideas off guys that have played in so many conditions around the world, get different opinions and use those to try to win games of cricket.”
