Exclusive: Charlton plans to relocate Blackpool, but Steve Bruce wants to keep Rob Apter

According to sources that spoke to Football Insider, Charlton Athletic is planning a move for Rob Apter, a midfielder for Blackpool.
Last season, Apter had a fantastic season with Blackpool, making 50 appearances in all competitions and contributing eight goals and eight assists. Apter is a priority target for Nathan Jones, who wants to increase their offensive options before returning to the Championship. However, Steve Bruce, the manager of Blackpool, is determined to keep the Scotland Under-21 international at Bloomfield Road.
Born in Liverpool Apter first played for Tranmere Rovers’ youth team before joining Blackpool in 2019. A year later, in November 2020, he signed a professional contract with the Tangerines, and the same month, he made his senior debut in the EFL Trophy.
While advancing through the ranks at Bloomfield Road, Apter went on a number of loan stints. His most noteworthy was back at his former team, Tranmere, in 2023–2024, where he finished with 13 goals and six assists in 40 games and won League Two’s Young Player of the Season award. The adaptable attacker made a comeback to Bruce’s third-tier team last summer, and he had a stellar 2024–25 campaign, including a 12-minute second-half hat-trick against Stevenage in April.

Charlton, a recently promoted Championship team, has expressed interest in signing him due to his impressive performances and potential for further improvement at the age of 22, but Blackpool is not going to let him go easily this summer. As the Addicks make their comeback to the second division after a five-year hiatus, Jones is obviously seeking to add strong players to his team this summer.
According to a recent report by Football Insider, Charlton has approached Preston North End and Millwall about signing defender Mathias Ross.
After spending two seasons on loan at NEC Nijmegen and Sparta Prague, the Dane mutually agreed to end his contract with Galatasaray one year early, making him a free agent. Ross, 24, only started six league games for Sparta during his loan stint last season, but all three Championship teams are fighting for his services this summer because he is a former Denmark Under-21 international.
