Ehibhatiomhan ‘wants to stay’ at Reading – Jacobson

Ehibhatiomhan ‘wants to stay’ at Reading. – Jacobson

The club has extended a contract offer to forward Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, according to Reading CEO Joe Jacobson, who believes they are not “too far away” from signing him.

Eleven members of the Royals first squad received new contract offers in May, including Ehibhatiomhan, but the forward has not yet accepted the conditions.

Jacobson told BBC Sport, “We’re still in contact with the agent and Kelvin himself.”

Like we’ve done with many other athletes, we’ve gone back and forth a few times. We want to put together a deal that will allow him to stay, but it won’t be simple because he is a great player.

“We believe we have really done that with the latest contract offer we have handed out, at the moment we’re still waiting to see what happens there.”

After graduating from Reading’s academy, Ehibhatiomhan, 22, has made 92 appearances for the senior squad and scored 17 goals.

He made 35 appearances and scored four goals as Reading finished eighth in League One last season.

In May, Jacobson joined the new look board led by owner Rob Couhig.

“At some point you have to kind of move on if it’s not going to happen but we’re doing everything we can at the moment to get him to stay,” said Jacobson.

His desire to stay is evident from the discussions that the manager and I have had with him.

“I don’t think we’re too far away but in football nothing is done until it’s done, we’re preparing for life with him and we’re preparing for life without him.”
