In an interview with Talksport, John Textor expressed his interest in completing a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday.
The American investor is undeterred by his recent struggles as Crystal Palace’s owner and intends to continue investing in English football by acquiring the EFL Championship club. Textor was obliged to sell his Crystal Palace shares due to UEFA rules governing multi-club ownership.
Palace qualified for the UEFA Europa League by winning the FA Cup. However, once Lyon qualified for the competition in Ligue 1, the East London club could be exempt due to Textor’s inability to demonstrate that the clubs are controlled by two independent corporations. Woody Johnson has agreed to buy the former OL president’s Crystal Palace shares, but the Premier League has yet to approve the deal.
When asked about potentially purchasing the South Yorkshire club, the Eagle Football Group CEO stated, “For me, Sheffield Wednesday represents the epitome of what is wrong with English football. They should have the opportunity to compete for the title each year, but they do not.”
