Reading FC to appoint new assistant manager

Reading FC are ready to hire a new assistant manager for the first squad after Nigel Gibbs quit last month.

The Royals were set to hire Richard Beale, who had left West Brom, after he verbally agreed to join Noel Hunt’s staff.

However, Beale made a late decision to reject Reading’s offer and instead join Aston Villa as their new under-18s manager.

Reading are now looking to a familiar figure to return to the club, with Scott Marshall ready to join Hunt’s coaching team.

Reading has made an official approach to Queens Park Rangers, where Marshall presently works at the club’s academy.

Marshall was Reading’s under 23s manager for three years before joining the club in September 2017.

He also served as caretaker manager of Reading’s first team when Paul Clement was fired in December 2018, before the club hired Jose Gomes as new manager later that month.

Marshall worked as an assistant manager at Swindon Town, Charlton Athletic, and Colchester United after leaving Reading. He joined QPR last year.
