Alfie Jones of Hull City may be headed to Middlesbrough, as the Teesside team has reportedly expressed interest in the £2 million defender.
According to speculations, defender Alfie Jones may be leaving Hull City for Middlesbrough, making the already challenging summer much more likely.
After hiring Sergej Jakirovic at the end of June, Hull has been particularly active in the transfer market this summer. The team just narrowly survived relegation from the Championship on the last weekend of the 2024–25 season.
However, a transfer ban has been imposed on the team, and there have been rumours that the team’s financial situation may be worse than first thought.

According to them, Boro has told the Tigers of their interest in their vice captain, and Jones is admired by Rob Edwards, the new head coach of Middlesbrough.
Although the 27-year-old central defender has not indicated that he is pressing for an escape, it has been reported that talks have taken place over a £2 million transfer to Teesside. Hull is reportedly unlikely to stand in his way if they receive an offer in that ballpark.
Jones is about to reach the last 12 months of his MKM Stadium deal.
For the last six years, Jones has played a significant role in the Hull defence.
Before moving to Hull in the summer of 2020, Alfie Jones had loan stints with Gillingham and St Mirren after failing to make an impression at Southampton, where he began his career.
He has made 180 League appearances for Hull City in the five years since. He won their 2023 Player of the Year and made 31 appearances for their League One winning squad in 2021.
Jones’ departure from Hull’s defensive centre would be a significant blow to the team, and Tigers supporters may wonder why bids for him are being considered considering that HullLive has revealed that he isn’t sure he wants to go.
Since he only has one year left on his contract after signing a three-year deal with the Tigers in 2023, it would make sense to cash in on him now and receive a few million pounds.
But over the past five seasons, he has shown himself to be a strong, dependable, and trustworthy leader for Hull. As the team tries desperately to stay out of the relegation trap going forward, holding onto as many successful Championship players as possible might be more valuable to them than a £2 million transfer fee.
