QPR news: Defender exit, R’s set for £500k Leicester City windfall, Marti Cifuentes “disrespectful” claim made

Even though QPR finished 15th in the Championship table the previous season, there was a lot of drama before the campaign’s last

game when head coach Marti Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave after it was alleged that his representatives had spoken with

West Bromwich Albion about their available managerial position.

Stephan, a former manager of Rennes and Strasbourg, was named as Cifuentes’ replacement after his exit from Loftus Road was

formally confirmed last month. The 44-year-old has already brought in three new players this summer.

The R’s have signed several senior players to new contracts in recent weeks, including Joe Walsh, Murphy Cooper, Jimmy Dunne,

Steve Cook, Ziyad Larkeche, Sam Field and Michael Frey, in addition to those new arrivals. The West London team is probably going

to do a lot more business before the transfer window closes.

We have compiled all of the most recent QPR news as the season countdown continues.

Hervertton Santos completes QPR exit

One of the players that Cifuentes recruited in last summer is leaving as QPR continues their hiring spree.

Hevertton Santos, a defender, joined the R’s from Estrela da Amadora in July of last year, but he only made nine appearances in the

first half of the season. Harrison Ashby, a loanee from Newcastle United and Dunne, was frequently selected over him.

Santos joined Vitoria de Guimaraes on loan in January after dropping in the hierarchy at Loftus Road, but he struggled to get

consistent playing time there as well. After making only eight appearances, the club chose not to exercise their option to purchase him

permanently for £1.7 million.

Santos was unlikely to be part of Stephan’s plans with the Hoops next season following the arrival of Kealey Adamson, and the 24-

year-old has now returned to the Portuguese top flight after finalising a season-long loan move to Gil Vicente.

QPR set for Marti Cifuentes, Leicester City windfall

Just weeks after his departure from QPR was announced, Cifuentes is set to make a swift return to management with Leicester City,

and his appointment could be confirmed by the end of the week.

The likes of Chris Wilder, Gary O’Neil, Sean Dyche and Danny Rohl had all been linked with the Foxes following the departure of Ruud

van Nistelrooy last month, but Cifuentes is now expected to take over at the King Power Stadium.

With the Spaniard’s exit clause specifying that his former club is entitled to pay when he chooses a new role, the R’s could be in luck as

they are reportedly expected to get £500,000 from Leicester for Cifuentes, according to The Sun.

There have been conflicting reports regarding Cifuentes’ willingness to pay a portion of the fee himself in order to expedite the move,

given the Foxes’ current financial constraints. West London Sport has revealed that the compensation payment must either come from

a club or national federation.

Simon Jordan slams Marti Cifuentes ahead of Leicester City move

Former Crystal Palace owner and talkSPORT analyst Simon Jordan criticised Cifuentes this week for his treatment of QPR prior to his

departure, saying that he showed disrespect to the team by looking at other positions while still under contract. Cifuentes is getting

ready to begin a new chapter in his career at Leicester.

“If you’re at Queens Park Rangers and you’re batting your eyelids at other people and wanting to get out of the door and creating

situations like that, then you do have an element of disloyalty about you, don’t you?” remarked Jordan on talkSPORT.

Therefore, you must take that into consideration when determining why he was placed in a situation where he was disciplined by QPR.

“If indeed he’s going to make a contribution towards it, I imagine they’ll pay him less of a salary, so rather than having to pony up any

money, it’ll be taken out of his upside, which is the salary he’ll be getting at Leicester, if indeed they want him.”

Jordan went on, “I do think it’s disrespectful,”

That’s why I had problems with Marco Silva and, at the time, with Gary Rowett, because I believe there’s a working method.

“Of course, you’ve earned the money and earned your stripes after doing amazing things and staying there for a long time.

“No one would say that Thomas Frank being available and having an ear for Tottenham was anything other than the fact he’s done his

job at Brentford. There was an opportunity and everyone leaves amicably.

“When you don’t do that, and you disrespect those who have given you an opportunity, and you show disloyalty, that’s the reason why

you get my reaction.”

QPR warned against Paul Smyth call despite Kwame Poku’s arrival.

For £900,000 plus add-ons, QPR signed Kwame Poku, a much sought-after winger for Peterborough United, last month. Some have

wondered what the 23-year-old’s arrival means for Paul Smyth, who is currently in the last year of his Loftus Road deal.

Despite winning the race for Poku, FLW’s QPR fan analyst Louis Moir thinks the team shouldn’t try to cash in on the Northern

Irishman this summer. Smyth only managed two goals and four assists in 47 games for the R’s last season.

Paul Smyth seems content at QPR, therefore I could see him signing a new contract. It’s obvious that he enjoys playing for the team,”

Louis told FLW.

“I’ve criticised him before. His directness and speed as a player are key, but when you consider his output, goals, and assists, you really

see nothing.

“We need better players if we want to advance and move forward. With Poku’s signing, we are undoubtedly doing that.

“I can see him signing a new contract, but it will depend on whether he is content to play more of a supporting role or as an impact

player, which is, to be honest, what he is best at. He has come off the bench a few times, and in some circumstances, he is most likely

the finest player you could ask for.

He might be deployed more as a left-winger this season, as that is where he excelled at Leyton Orient, rather than on the right side,

where we appear to have plenty of options.

“With his speed and ability to get past defenders, he would be a top player if he added goals and assists to his game.

“I believe that cashing in might be foolish. He plays a significant role on this team, perhaps playing more off the bench.
