Blackpool stance on winger outlined amid interest from Charlton Athletic.

Rob Apter is garnering interest from the Championship following his breakout season with Blackpool.

Steve Bruce has stated that Charlton Athletic have approached Blackpool about a trade for Rob Apter.

The 22-year-old has been with the Seasiders since 2019, and has proven to be a success story in the club’s academy system. After rising through the ranks on the Fylde Coast, the winger was loaned out on multiple occasions to gain first-team experience.

He progressed through the football pyramid, playing for Bamber Bridge, Chester, and Scunthorpe United before joining Tranmere Rovers in 2023.

His time at Prenton Park helped prepare him for a breakout year with Blackpool, after returning to Bloomfield Road as League Two’s young player of the season last summer.

Apter established himself as a significant player under Bruce during the 2024/25 season, scoring eight goals and giving three assists in 43 league appearances.

When asked about the interest in the Seasiders’ junior product, the Blackpool manager confessed it was comparable to the situation that saw Kyle Joseph join Hull City in January. “We’ve had conversations with Charlton, but where it’s at, I really don’t know – that’s for others to talk about,” he told me. “We don’t want to sell Rob, but in football, everyone has a price.

I’m not sure whether there will be any further developments. “He is a dying breed. He’s one of those people who can overcome challenges and achieve achievement. Nobody wants him to leave, but it’s football.

It’s a difficult scenario, but Rob could make it to the Championship. “We’ll see what happens, and we’ll be open and honest with the fans, telling it how it is.

“It is exactly the same as Kyle (Joseph). As a manager, you don’t want these guys to leave, but everyone has a price, and if it reaches a point where we believe it’s a fair deal for us, we’ll look into it and see where it leads.

“We are always planning. You never want to sell your greatest players, but when the big boys offer a cash package, it becomes difficult.

“We’ll show him the same respect that we showed to Kyle.”
