Sheffield Wednesday news as ‘really shocked’ claim made and new deal

The latest Sheffield Wednesday news, as confirmation of the Owls’ future is expected.

A former Premier League player has claimed that he thought Danny Rohl was ‘nailed on to move on’ from Sheffield Wednesday as uncertainty surrounds Hillsborough this summer.

According to the Star, there is broad interest in the Owls after parties in the UK, USA, and one related to Monaco expressed their want to purchase the club from current owner Dejphon Chansiri in recent weeks. According to the Star, one bid has been approved, and the possible owners are willing to grant an advance to help the club amid its current financial difficulty while negotiations between the two parties continue.

Rohl’s own future appeared increasingly dubious as speculation about the depths of the Owls’ difficulties persisted, and the German manager was linked with managerial vacancies at Leicester City, Southampton, and Middlesbrough over the summer months. However, when Rohl returns from his summer holiday on Monday, he plans to have open discussions with his squad, and former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has stated his amazement that the Owls manager may still be at the club.

The former Villa player told Football League World: “Yeah, I’m pretty amazed by that given the present scenario and the rumors that are circulating about the football club. Obviously, players leaving and not being paid, you do feel that it is a big shot because he (Rohl) has been linked to a lot of jobs, and to do a U-turn, you think to yourself, there must be something more that surrounds it, which might be a good thing for Sheffield Wednesday Danny Rohl. I’m astonished, and I assumed he was destined to move on and go someplace.”

Owls confirm forward deal

Wednesday confirmed that talented youth forward Favour Onukwuli has been given a new contract.

The gifted winger joined the Owls from the Volenti Academy in January 2023 and has since been a mainstay in Under-21 teams. However, his involvement last season was cut short due to an injury and subsequent surgery, and the 19-year-old will now attempt to re-establish himself as one of the Owls’ brightest prospects while also striving for senior inclusion.

In a club release, the teenager said: “I feel like I’ve gained a lot of experience playing at the higher level; in these games, you learn a lot from the players and coaches who teach you the tactical point of view, which I didn’t know much about before joining.”

So, from then until now, I’m quite pleased with my development and have added a lot more to my game. I’m a strong believer; I want to be around the first team and learn more; that’s my goal for the upcoming season.”
