El Khannouss signed a four-year contract with the Foxes last summer for an estimated £21 million from Genk. El Khannouss is

making £35,000 a week at the King Power Stadium, according to Capology, a website that calculates player earnings.

With two goals and three assists in the league, the gifted 21-year-old played a crucial role in Leicester’s top division campaign the

previous season, which ended in 18th place and sent them straight down to the Championship.

According to reports, Sunderland is presently in the lead to recruit Leicester’s El Khannouss this summer.

They are up against teams like West Ham and AS Monaco, though, and a move is possible during this transfer window.

The forward is thought to have little desire in playing in the second level, despite having a contract with the Championship team till

2028.

A suitable release provision was reportedly added to his contract earlier in the summer, and it has been stated that queries have been

made.

Although the exact amount of that release clause is still unknown, Leicester paid £21 million to sign him just a year ago, which may be

typical of any price in this market.

El Khannouss might be Sunderland’s seventh addition after they made six acquisitions since being promoted to the Premier League.

Compared to the Wearside team, Leicester has had a far more subdued summer transfer window thus far, and the team has not yet

added any players to its roster.

Martí Cifuentes, the soon-to-be new head coach, will want to evaluate his present team before making any additions.

The club has lost players like Daniel Iversen and Danny Ward, and Jamie Vardy left at the end of the previous season.

On August 10, Leicester will play Sheffield Wednesday in the opening match of their Championship campaign.

El Khannouss is unlikely to be a key player in Leicester’s attempt to get promoted the following season.

In an otherwise challenging season for the Foxes, the forward had glimpses of true brilliance, so it’s little wonder he’s drawing some

interest.

He has the potential to become a very good player because he is still only 21.

There might not be much Leicester can do to keep El Khannouss this summer because of the release clause.
