Sunderland plan to continue spending spree after passing £100m mark
After making an approach, Sunderland is now ahead of West Ham in the competition to acquire a brand-new, £22 million “magician,”
according to a recent report.
In what has been an incredible summer for the team thus far, the Black Cats kicked off their preseason over the weekend with a 4-0
victory over non-league South Shields. Midfielder Habib Diarra is Sunderland’s most costly acquisition to date, and the team has
already recruited six players this summer who have cost over £100 million.
The Premier League newcomers are not content to stop there, either, as Sunderland is interested in signing Charlie Cresswell from
Toulouse, a French team. The Black Cats are eager to bring the defender back to England in a deal that may cost them up to £18
million. He is already well-known in English football after playing for Leeds United.
Despite Anthony Patterson’s strong performance the previous season, Regis Le Bris and company are also considering possible new
goalkeepers in addition to strengthening their centre defensive. After speaking with Aaron Ramsdale’s representation, Sunderland is
currently getting ready to make Southampton an offer. Although it might cost Sunderland £25 million to finalise a deal, the 27-year-
old is reportedly willing to moving to the Stadium of Light as long as he stays in the Premier League.
Sunderland lead West Ham in race to sign new £22m “magician” after approach
The recent additions might not even end there, as L’Equipe, via Get French Football News, reports that Sunderland has made contact
with Leicester City over the acquisition of midfielder Bilal El Khannouss.
According to the source, the 21-year-old, who just suffered relegation with the Foxes, has been approached by West Ham United and
AS Monaco in addition to the Black Cats. Nonetheless, Sunderland is seen to be in the lead to sign El Khannouss.
The report states that as well as the Black Cats, West Ham United and AS Monaco have made enquiries about signing the 21-year-old,
who has just suffered relegation with the Foxes. However, it is Sunderland who are considered to be leading the race to sign El
Khannouss.
The Moroccan international, who was dubbed a “magician” after his performance against Southampton last season, only joined
Leicester last summer from KRC Genk. El Khannouss contributed to five goals despite the Foxes struggling all season at the bottom
end of the Premier League.
