Another twist at Sheffield Wednesday in latest wages update

Some Sheffield Wednesday players are believed to have been paid this evening, but the actual number is unknown.

A number of Owls players have gone underpaid for two months as a result of Hillsborough’s latest financial disaster, while others have been paid in part or in full. It has even impacted non-playing employees.

The FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players’ article 14bis states that “in the case of a club unlawfully failing to pay a player at least two monthly salaries on their due dates, the player will be deemed to have a just cause to terminate his contract, provided that he has put the debtor club in default in writing and has granted a deadline of at least 15 days for the debtor club to fully comply with its financial obligation.” Based on this, it is believed that a number of players have given their 15-day notice.

Sheffield Wednesday owe several individuals money

That 15-day period will end on July 15th, and there have been many questions about what happens next, with varied messages from those in the know.

On top of that confusion, The Star – as reported by Radio Sheffield – now learns that some Owls players were paid the money owing to them tonight, but the quantity of players who remain underpaid is unknown, and what it means for those who have remains to be seen.

Wednesday are sure to have received some money from the sale of Anthony Musaba to Samsunspor, as well as compensation from Sutura Kakay’s move to Southampton, and they will also be expecting a lump amount from Rangers once Djeidi Gassama’s Scottish move is completed.

The Star will continue to watch the situation and provide an update tomorrow to see how Danny Röhl is doing on his second day back at Middlewood Road.
