Canaries Summer Scrimmage special hears from the new regime at Norwich City.

-
At Carrow Road, Canaries head coach Liam Manning, majority shareholder Mark Attanasio, sporting director Ben Knapper, and executive director Zoe Webber were answering questions.
-
Attanasio flew in from the United States for the Q&A and made a very clear point: “One of the promises I made to Delia and Michael was that we would open our chequebook.”
-
The future of star striker Josh Sargent was discussed, with Knapper admitting there is “big interest” in the American striker.
-
Manning is “super excited” about the addition of Danish international attacker Mathias Kvistgaarden.

And that’s your lot… with an Oasis encore
Manning is asked what he would choose if he were in charge of pre-match music in the locker room. He responds; “I’m actually going to see Oasis soon, so something like that.
” Attanasio says his sons are going as well, and the live stream concludes on a light-hearted note, with plenty of ground covered. There was plenty of positivity in the room, but as we all know, it’s easy to be positive in pre-season before the competitive stuff begins (as Thorup and Knapper discovered last season on the first day at newly promoted Oxford).
It is clear that there will be additional transfer activity in the future. I believe Josh Sargent will be written about a lot.
Thank you for following us this evening. The entire event can be viewed in the video above, and it will also be available in audio form on the Scrimmage podcast feed as usual.
Derby pressure
The hour has flown by. We’re approaching the final question, which is a big one: how will City maintain its proud derby record against Ipswich – 16 years undefeated, in case you forgot…
Manning says it will be important to make it clear to lads who are new to the club, particularly those from overseas, and that he will be “giving them an appreciation and understanding of the importance of the game in the lead up to it.
” He adds that it is his responsibility to ensure that they are “fired up” on the day to get out there and “give it a right go”.
Portman Road awaits in early October.
This season
Chris Reeve has a burning question regarding the word transition. He requests an answer: “Liam, what do you you hope, believe and expect from this season?” Manning pauses before responding, “It’s clear the goal is to get to the Premier League, but it’s also clear that many other teams in the league are attempting to do the same.
” Do I believe in our group and the people behind the scenes? The answer was ‘yes’ for me, and hopefully we can add to it.” He concludes by saying, “I’m getting the lads ready to win on day one,” which is fairly obvious for a head coach to say but still important to hear.
Webber adds that she has always believed the club should aim to be in the top six, and she does not believe there was any confusion about this last season.

Stadium expansion?
The next question is about Carrow Road expansion. Zoe Webber acknowledges that some images of the plans leaked online, but then gives the standard club response about how expensive it is.
Webber elaborated: “It’s very much something we’re looking at but it’s about feasibility.” Attanasio chips in and says he promised Delia the name Carrow Road would remain, which gets a big cheer from the audience.
He discusses “optimising the fan experience” and ensuring the stadium’s facilities are “state of the art”. So there’s nothing new in that situation.

Sargent
After some discussion about Borja Sainz’s move to Porto, the focus shifts to whether Josh Sargent will stay. So, will he leave? Knapper: “We don’t know at the moment. There is a lot of interest in the player, so the answer is currently no.
Josh is a player who will always pique people’s interest, as everything must work for everyone. Clubs from the big five leagues have expressed interest.” He also stated that if an offensive player leaves, they will look to replace them. So Kvistgaarden is not always a pre-purchased replacement.
Attanasio joins in and says he has plenty of experience in baseball of losing the team’s top players. Says Knapper has made clear to him that Sargent is “the best striker in the Championship”.

Big questions from the floor…
A great question from a guy called Harry. He asks why Manning chose City over Bristol. “I’ve returned here because of the work and ambition of the club.
I also want to do things properly by developing both staff and players. It met all of my expectations for the next steps in my career.” The next question for Knapper is how much Manning can spend. The upbeat Sporting Director says: “One of the exciting aspects of where we are with Mark and ownership is their resource.
It sounds crude, but it enables us to be more proactive and aggressive in the marketplace. We don’t need to sell a player to accomplish something, which makes my job much easier.”
