Exclusive: Don Goodman raises issue Danny Rohl faces upon Sheffield Wednesday return
After attempting to fake a transfer away from Hillsborough for a considerable amount of time, Danny Rohl has returned to his duties
with Sheffield Wednesday.
With his recent attempts to quit Wednesday, despite having two years left on his contract, the German manager, who guided the Owls
to numerous victories during what was, on the pitch, a very difficult time in the club’s recent history, has tarnished his reputation.
In April, he informed the club that he planned to look for a new opportunity this summer. What soon followed was a period of
financial chaos that left the club with three embargoes, a transfer ban which lasts until the start of 2027 and a number of both playing
and non-playing staff short of the wages that they were owed.
It was, and still can be considered, a mess at Hillsborough, but one that he has now returned to after no club was willing to take him
away from the Steel City this summer.
The 36-year-old returning to coach them throughout part of preseason training apparently infuriated some players. According to The
Sun, Rohl was told to shorten his vacation by the club’s owner and chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, but he failed to return to Middlewood
Road in time for the start of next season’s preparations.
According to The Star, Rohl and the players have had open discussions, although some may still consider leaving on Wednesday due to
the German’s homecoming or the uncertainty surrounding Hillsborough.
Sheffield Wednesday players unlikely to be influenced by Danny Rohl’s return

of the players to stay with Wednesday.
“Well, right now, Danny Rohl staying at Sheffield Wednesday might be having the opposite effect really, in terms of the noise coming
out of Hillsborough, in terms of several players being unhappy at the thought of Danny Rohl’s return when, well, as far back as last
April, he hinted that he wanted to leave the football club,” he told Football League World in an exclusive interview.
“So I don’t know [whether it will encourage some players to stay]. I think whether he stays or whether he goes, the club is in serious
turmoil and then, if you have the possibility of leaving for a better alternative, then as a player, you might be inclined to take that up.
“So I’m not sure how influential Danny Rohl’s return to Hillsborough as head coach would be over whether players stay or whether
players go.”
Sheffield Wednesday are in a very vulnerable position
Right now, Wednesdays are largely at the request of the players, particularly those who were able to give the club their notice after two
months of nonpayment. According to reports, Josh Windass is among the athletes who have done this.
They are in a very limited position to replace players like Windass or the wing combo of Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama, who
have recently been plucked away from the Owls, and Chansiri needs the money from sales to settle his obligations.
In this case, a player will most likely be able to find their way out quite quickly if they truly want to leave.
