Barry Bannan sends ‘frustrated’ warning to Rangers after Djeidi Gassama’s Sheffield Wednesday exit
Due to the departure of important players from Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday supporters are suffering under Dejphon Chansiri’s
ownership.
Anthony Musaba, an electric winger, signed a four-year contract with Samsunspor last week. Djeidi Gassama’s £2.2 million move to
Rangers came shortly after his departure.
Sheffield Wednesday supporters were displeased with Gassama’s transfer fee after he scored seven Championship goals in 2024–2025
because they believed he may fetch an eight-figure price tag in the years to come.
Dejphon Chansiri continues to drain the club of any positive energy, and the 21-year-old’s exit from Hillsborough after just two
campaigns was the most recent in a long line of reasons to be angry with him.
Although Gassama is thrilled about the possibility of playing in Europe the next season, Rangers have already received a warning from
Sheffield Wednesday veteran Barry Bannan.
Barry Bannan warns Rangers fans of key Djeidi Gassama issue
The speed and cunning of Gassama flying down the wing in 2025–2026 will be missed by the Owls supporters, but despite all of his
excitement, the 2003-born star still has a lot to learn.
In an interview with the Daily Record, former teammate Bannan was eager to emphasise that, as a young player, he needs to
completely develop his decision-making skills and increase his quality in the final third.
“I think the Rangers supporters will likely still need to exercise patience with him because he’s only 21 years old,” Bannan stated.
“I know that’s probably not young in football terms but he’s still got a lot to learn. He’s not shy. He’s a lovely kid who just wants to
have a good laugh.
“You’ll be annoyed by him in some of the games, and then you’ll think, ‘Wow, we’ve got some player on our hands.'” He has a lot of
potential, as we seen at Wednesday previous season.
However, Bannan did imply that if Gassama increases his “consistency,” he will be a “very good signing” for the Gers.
“He might not have had the season-ending form he had hoped for, but for someone so young, he played a lot of games last year and
was excellent. He will be a very, very good addition to Rangers if he can find some consistency.
Possible replacement for Gassama

involved.
So, when scouring the market for a Gassama replacement, perhaps Sheffield Wednesday should look at Tottenham’s Yang Min-hyeok.
| Career statistics | Djeidi Gassama | Yang Min-hyeok |
| Appearances | 147 | 56 |
| Goals | 42 | 15 |
| Assists | 14 | 7 |
The 19-year-old impressed Marti Cifuentes when on loan at Queens Park Rangers for the second half of the previous season.
However, Sheffield Wednesday may give the South Korean a chance at regular first-team action and a complete season in the
Championship, which would be beneficial.
