According to the BBC, the city council warned that it might not be able to approve the safety certificate required for

spectators to use Hillsborough Stadium, which could result in its closure for the start of the football season.

Many supporters are unsure if they will be able to sit in their assigned seat this season because, according to the

report, there is “currently no professional reassurance as to the safety of the North Stand structure.”

According to Sheffield Wednesday’s FAQ’s, as published on the club website, it reads: “The club reserves the right to

re-designate supporters to any area of the ground, be that be for capacity restrictions or social distancing guidelines,

and to visiting supporters or otherwise.

“In the event that a ballot is not needed, Season Ticket holders who are impacted will be given a ticket for the

relevant match in a different area of the stadium.”

“Should COVID-19 restrictions be reintroduced for the 2023/24 season, we will be adhering to all the latest guidance

in line with the Government and EFL’s advice at that time,” the statement adds, but it is important to take it with a

grain of salt because the conditions haven’t been updated in two years.

There is no certainty whether the North Stand will be fit for purpose come the start of the season, but Sheffield

Wednesday did specifically request an away tie on the opening game of the season to give them more time.

Even if the repair is finished on schedule, it is still unacceptable that fans have been kept in the dark about their

season tickets.

One block has already sold out, and season ticket holders have paid up to £701 to be in the North Stand this term.

Despite the fact that many fans share these worries, the club remains silent.
