David Moyes will be buzzing as Everton get one up on Liverpool after £27m transfer

David Moyes will be ecstatic following an early transfer, but Everton is still a long way from matching Liverpool’s level.

Moyes hopes to thwart any title challenge next season since he is well aware of the rivalry with the red side of Merseyside.

Since that James Tarkowski goal will be discussed for years around Everton, the hostility is only getting worse after last season’s meetings.

Virgil van Dijk said Liverpool are Everton’s ‘cup final’, but the Liverpool players will no doubt scan for the Derby as their first thought when they saw the fixture list.

A bit of patience is needed for the first meeting in September, but Moyes has already got one over Arne Slot’s side by the looks of things.

Everton get one over Liverpool with Thierno Barry transfer

The Frenchman is eager to make an immediate impression under Moyes as Everton welcomes Thierno Barry as their new number nine.

Barry’s £27 million arrival has received great praise, and Everton supporters enjoy his aerial presence.

Before signing the striker, who has the opportunity to establish himself in the Premier League, Moyes would have undoubtedly considered this.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt may sign a £70 million contract with Liverpool, suggesting that the club is poised to follow suit once Everton has completed their striker.

Frankfurt want more, so it could likely reach the £80m mark, but when comparing Liverpool’s new Frenchman to Everton’s, it proves that the Toffees might have actually got a better deal.

Thierno Barry Hugo Ekitike
Fee £27m £70m*
Age 22 23
Games played 131 151
Goals 61 50
Assists 16 25
*Potential reported fee

The vast difference in fee stands out here, as not only does Barry have more goals, but he’s a younger option, and for once, Everton might have shown up their bitter rivals.

Everton actually wanted Ekitike before Liverpool did

With Liverpool potentially paying over the odds and Everton securing a brilliant deal, it’s clear that the Blues could have also gotten a cut-price fee for Ekitike.

Everton’s goal-scoring issues are anticipated to be resolved in the long run by Barry, although Sean Dyche attempted to address this much earlier with Ekitike.

In 2023, Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT that Everton wanted to pay £30 million for the 23-year-old, which is £50 million less than what Slot’s team is currently paying.

Although it appears that Everton was ahead of the curve, it is now evident that Barry’s signing would be more cost-effective.

For now, Everton has a clear advantage over Liverpool, but we shall really see the results next season.
