Aston Villa ‘show transfer interest’ in Champions League defender with release clause deadline
Aston Villa transfer latest as they’re linked with a move for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, who has a
release clause
Denzel Dumfries, a right back for Inter Milan and a Netherlands international, has apparently a €25 million release
clause that is only effective until the end of this month, and Aston Villa has’shown interest’ in him this summer.
The 29-year-old Dumfries signed a long-term contract with the team last winter that will last until 2028, although
this was at a time when Inter was in danger of losing the player this summer on a free transfer. They therefore
decided to add a release provision with a deadline to his contract in order to get his signature.
However, that clause expires at the end of July, so those interested in Dumfries this summer will need to move fast.
Villa has been reported to be interested in the Dutchman, while Barcelona has also been mentioned who have Jules
Kounde as their current first choice right-back – by intermediary Jorge Mendes.
Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio recently confirmed that Barca hadn’t been in contact with the Nerazzurri,
however, in relation to a prospective deal or the availability of Dumfries, who scored twice in the Champions League
semi finals against Barca and played in the final as they were beaten by PSG.
“No, we never received anything from them, and it has never contained anything. I can attest to the existence of a
release clause, which was put in place during a trying time, but I think we did a good job of preserving the club’s
history,” Ausilio stated.

far more frightened by the provision than we were. He is content to stay, and Inter feels at ease.
However, it is said that Dumfries has not yet designated a new agent and is now handled by his brother and father.
Since joining Milan from PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie in 2021, the 65-time capped defender has played for Inter.
Although Matty Cash is Villa’s first choice right-back, the team addressed the situation in January by signing teenage
defender Andres Garcia from Levante to a long-term contract. Since then, they have loaned Kosta Nedeljkovic to RB
Leipzig in Germany for the second time in a row.
