Gary Neville slams ‘unforgivable’ decision from Liverpool owners FSG
Although Liverpool is about to win the Premier League for the second time under their current owners, Gary Neville
is not impressed with FSG.
Gary Neville has attacked Liverpool’s owners, FSG, calling it “unforgivable” that they were unable to sign Trent
Alexander-Arnold, who is headed to Real Madrid, to a new contract.
expected to leave this summer and relocate for free to the Santiago Bernabeu when his current contract expires.
According to reports, Alexander-Arnold and Los Blancos have reached an agreement on a long-term contract worth
about £250,000 per week, which will be supplemented by a large eight-figure signing bonus.
He, like Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah, have been allowed to run down their contracts on Merseyside, with all three
able to walk away in the summer if they choose – although it’s understood both Van Dijk and Salah prefer to stay put.
But Neville is simply stunned that the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, have let this happen, particularly at a
time when the Premier League leaders are on the verge of landing the title.
Neville made the following statement on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast: “A few years ago, when Virgil Van Dijk was
going through a period in which he was teetering a little bit and (Mo) Salah was present, they looked at them and
said, ‘we’ll wait with you.'” And the players are most likely now resenting it.
“With Trent, there is no forgiveness. If you’re the club’s owner and you look at Trent two years ago, even if your
sporting department is having trouble, you’ll say, ‘We’ve got to sign him up, he’s one of our own.'” Regardless of
whether you’re going through difficult times in the boardroom or not.
However, Neville has cautioned Alexander-Arnold that things could not be as good in the Spanish city since he would
find it difficult to break into Carlo Ancelotti’s squad with Dani Carvajal and the incredibly versatile Fede Valverde
already there.

or else it will get to him. Given that Real Madrid has Dani Carvajal when he returns and Federico Valverde, who is
now playing right-back, I believe it will be an issue for him there.
“He’s going to have some serious competition. They are brilliant players, and he’s going to find it tough there.”
