Exclusive: Blackburn Rovers star “worthy” of transfer but Sky Sports pundit wouldn’t be surprised if he stayed

Lewis Travis, the captain of Blackburn Rovers, is in the final year of his contract and has drawn a lot of interest from

Championship clubs.

Throughout the summer transfer window, Travis has been the focus of a great deal of conjecture. Derby County had

the opportunity to sign the 27-year-old after Wrexham cooled their interest, according to an exclusive report from

FLW.

What binds him to Derby is his relationship with John Eustace, who trained the midfield player at Blackburn before

leaving to become the Rams’ head coach in February.

During their time together at Ewood Park, Eustace and Travis were quite close, and the footballer characterises their

friendship as significant. After Eustace left, Travis told BBC Radio Lancashire, “I was very close to him, so it is hard

to see a gaffer you’re so close to leave.

Sky Sports pundit offers perspective on Lewis Travis

Lewis Travis at Blackburn Rovers

According to reports, Rovers values Travis at about £2 million. The team wants to start a little bidding war among

interested parties so they don’t lose their captain for nothing the following summer.

Sky Sports analyst Lee Hendrie provided a fair assessment of the issue that has engulfed Rovers supporters during

the summer transfer season thus far in an exclusive interview with FLW regarding the rumours around Travis.

“I mean, he’s one of them players – I’ve said this many times – at this level he’s very good,” Hendrie stated to FLW.

“With all the interest in him being connected away, you do wonder if it will really happen. He had another strong

season and is a key member of the football team. That will be the intriguing element.

Travis has earned the right to make a move if the opportunity presents itself, according to the former Aston Villa

great, who received one England cap during his playing career.

“I do think he’s well, well, worthy of getting the move, but then you think to yourself, Blackburn should be looking to

sort of build the team around what he is and what he’s done so far,” Hendrie stated.

The 48-year-old, however, expressed caution about whether any rumours would turn into actual action, citing the

alleged lack of interest from possible teams.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up staying,” he concluded.

Travis’ importance to Blackburn Rovers

Travis has been an important member of Blackburn’s team; he played mostly as a defensive midfielder during the

24/25 season, making 38 league games and scoring two goals.

Since joining Blackburn in 2014, the former Liverpool academy player has made over 260 appearances for the

Lancashire team in all competitions. In 2022, he was named captain by Jon Dahl Tomasson.

According to Football Insider, Rovers are having trouble reaching fresh agreements with Travis and right-back

Callum Brittain, whose move to Middlesbrough may not work out.

Travis is faced with the decision of whether to stay in Lancashire or look for a new challenge, which might be on the

same level. His ability to compete at the top end of the Championship is supported by his loan stint with Ipswich

Town in the second part of the 23–24 season, where he assisted the Tractor Boys in earning promotion to the

Premier League.

With multiple second-tier sides circling and his contract running down, the coming weeks will perhaps prove crucial

in determining whether Blackburn can convince their captain to commit his future to Ewood Park or whether he will

seek pastures new.
