Josh Windass, a former Sheffield Wednesday striker, seems set to face his former side next season after agreeing to terms with Wrexham.
That’s according to GiveMeSport, which stated on Sunday that Windass, who was released from Hillsborough last week, was heading to the Red Dragons, with a physical scheduled for today. He wasted no time in finding a new club when his contract with S6 was mutually terminated due to the team’s recent financial issues.
“Wrexham have agreed to terms with striker Josh Windass with a medical planned for Monday,” according to GMS.
“Windass is a free agent following the mutual termination of his contract with financially troubled Sheffield Wednesday.” Norwich City and Coventry City are still hoping to make a last-ditch effort to sign the player, although Wrexham are close to a deal.
Josh Windass doesn’t waste any time

“The 31-year-old held remote talks with Wrexham over the past 72 hours, including with manager Phil Parkinson during their pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand.”
Meanwhile, Michael Smith, who was released with Windass, is unlikely to be without a club for long, with Blackpool and MK Dons both reportedly interested in bringing him on board for their respective 2025/26 campaigns.
Wednesday are currently in a difficult situation, with concerns about additional departures and an embargo from the English Football League remaining in place, and there are many doubts about many aspects of the club ahead of the new season.
