Huddersfield Town are preparing to add their newest star-studded signing to their roster ahead of the 2025/26 season. HTAFC are strong favourites to return to the second division and are ready to recruit Alfie May, a former League One Golden Boot and title winner.
So far in the summer transfer window, the Terriers have piqued fans’ interest by adding a number of high-profile players to Lee Grant’s lineup. Frontman May is another name to add to the list, with recent success in the third tier with Cheltenham Town, Charlton Athletic, and Birmingham City reviving his career.
32-year-old May just joined Blues in July 2024, but following the club’s promotion to the Championship, it appears his availability has been made plain, and a move is now in the works.
Grant’s Huddersfield Town team has already acquired ten players to their squad, none of whom are natural strikers, with Marcus Harness being the most advanced acquisition. However, Football League World now reports that a £1.2 million contract for May has been agreed upon.
Meanwhile, HTAFC has bolstered its defense options with the additions of Joe Low, Sean Roughan, Jack Whatmough, Murray Wallace, and Josh Feeney.
Alfie May’s League One pedigree
Prior to his eye-catching 2021/22 League One season with Cheltenham Town, May spent the majority of his career bouncing between the third and fourth levels with the Robins and Doncaster Rovers, as well as in the National League.
His 23 league goals placed him third in the goalscoring statistics, and he repeated the record the next season, scoring 20 goals in 2022/23. May played one season at Charlton Athletic, where he scored 23 more goals and won the golden boot.
He then landed on Birmingham City’s radar as they began their quest to form a League One super club.

HTAFC appear to be seeking to replicate the success of the eventual 111-point record breakers, and are expected to spend more than a million pounds to get May’s services.
Huddersfield Town’s forward options
Following a promotion-winning campaign in which May scored 24 goals in 44 league games, he is expected to be the first name on the team sheet. However, Huddersfield Town already has a powerful attacking line, and a starting position may not be guaranteed.
With no anticipated exits, the Terriers now have five senior attackers, the most of whom have previously demanded a high cost to sign.
Joe Taylor, a young forward, signed for the club in January for a large fee, along with Dion Charles. Freddie Ladapo joined the club for free, although Serbian forward Bojan Radulovic and Englishman Rhys Healey were also pricey.
