Crystal Palace loanee Owen Goodman spells out Huddersfield Town’s ambitious League One target

According to Huddersfield Town loanee Owen Goodman, the team’s goal this season is to “win the league” in order

to progress.

The Terriers, who were demoted last year after five seasons in the division, are seeking to make a comeback to the

Championship.

Last season, Town had aimed for an instant promotion from League One; but, following a strong start, they suffered

a severe setback in the second half, finishing in tenth place.

Since then, the Terriers have chosen to reassemble their team, and Goodman is one of ten new players signed before

the new season begins on August 2.

Goodman has talked about his team’s goals for the forthcoming season after joining Town on a season-long loan

from Crystal Palace. “Obviously, the goal is to get promoted, and we want to do that by winning the league,” he said

on BBC Radio Leeds.

“The goal is to outperform everyone, perform well each week, put in a lot of effort, and make demands.

“We’re going to put in a lot of effort and give it our all, and hopefully, nine or ten months later, we’ll be looking back

and saying, ‘Wow, we did really well.'”

After spending the previous two seasons at AFC Wimbledon and Colchester United, Goodman is starting his third

consecutive loan stint with Town.

The 21-year-old made 94 appearances across the past two campaigns, and the stopper is eager to continue getting

plenty of game time under his belt with the Terriers.

“When I obviously spoke to the gaffer (Lee Grant), he told me that I was going to come in and he wants to help me,

he wants me to help the club, and obviously the aim is for me to play,” the recruit, who has been given the number

one shirt for the forthcoming season, stated.

“Obviously, I’m on loan here and I want to grow, and I thought that this was the perfect spot for me to do that—

playing as many games as I can, working with a manager who used to be a goalie and is incredibly understanding.

I’m here to have fun.

“I’m not far off 100 appearances, I’m only six games shy of that, so as young as what I am, 21, I’m pretty much an

experienced head near enough.”

Goodman went on to say, “Obviously as a community and fans, from what I’ve heard, I’m just expecting a great

crowd,” when asked what he anticipates from Town’s supporters. Naturally, we play our games here at Accu

Stadium, and the away fans are all very grateful. They support us all season long, without fail.

“Be our 12th man, and we’ll put in a tonne of effort and give it our all all season long. Naturally, we want to

accomplish our goal and be our 12th man during the entire process.
