Macaulay Langstaff may want Millwall FC exit – Bolton Wanderers, Reading & Bristol Rovers should be on red alert
This summer, several clubs are probably going to be interested in Macaulay Langstaff, a striker, because of doubts
about his future at Millwall.
Following a successful two-year stint with Notts County in the National League and League Two, Langstaff moved up
to the Championship last summer when he signed a contract worth £700,000 with add-ons with Millwall.
After manager Alex Neil took over in December, Langstaff’s game time became more scarce in the second half of the
season, and his first season at The Den was frustrating as he failed to make an impression.

The 28-year-old Langstaff may find himself lower in the standings for the upcoming season after the club signed
Josh Coburn on a permanent basis from Middlesbrough in a deal worth up to £5 million following his successful
loan spell last season. Earlier in the summer, it was reported that Langstaff was eager to stay at Millwall this summer
and fight for his spot.
In light of this, Langstaff might choose to pursue a transfer before the transfer window closes, and we examined
three EFL teams that ought to be keeping a careful eye on any events pertaining to his future.
Bolton Wanderers
Bolton Wanderers were seen as one of the League One promotion favourites the previous season, but they ended up
finishing in a disappointing eighth position, despite an early improvement in performance following Ian Evatt’s
replacement by Steven Schumacher in January.
Teddy Sharman-Lowe, Xavier Simons, Amario Cozier-Duberry, Thierry Gale, and Sam Dalby are among the players
Schumacher has brought to the Toughsheet Community Stadium as part of a major squad rebuild this summer.
However, the Trotters suffered a devastating blow last month when Aaron Collins, the team’s top scorer with 19 goals
from the previous season, made an unexpected move to the aspirational League Two team MK Dons.
In the forward positions, Wanderers currently have Dalby, Victor Adeboyejo, John McAtee, and the out-of-favor Dan
Nlundulu on their roster. However, Schumacher has urged the board to sign a new striker within the next week so
that Collins can get some time to work with them before the season begins.
Given his difficulties in the Championship the previous season, it might be challenging for Bolton to finalise a deal
for Langstaff that quickly, and there would be some risk involved in signing him, but if Schumacher is looking for a
clinical finisher, the Millwall player could definitely meet his needs.
Reading
Although Rob Couhig’s takeover ended Dai Yongge’s terrible reign in May, there is a positive vibe in the air at
Reading ahead of the new season. However, manager Noel Hunt still has a lot of work to do to assemble a team that
can contend for promotion in League One.
In addition to signing important players like Joel Pereira and Lewis Wing to new contracts, the Royals have signed
six new players this summer so far, with many more expected to join before the window closes.
However, Jayden Wareham rejected Reading’s offer of a new contract in order to join fellow third tier side Exeter
City, while Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan is yet to commit his future to the club, and that leaves Brighton & Hove Albion
loanee Mark O’Mahony as the club’s only senior striker currently.
Langstaff would probably get a lot of playing time at the Select Car Leasing Stadium next season due to the lack of
options in the forward areas. If he receives good service from players like Wing, Harvey Knibbs, Charlie Savage, and
Mamadi Camara, he could regain his prolific goal-scoring ability with the Royals.
When Bristol Rovers were nine points clear of the drop zone in League One in mid-March, they appeared to be
headed for safety. However, they were demoted to League Two after earning just one point from their final ten
games.
It has been a summer of change at the Memorial Stadium, with Darrell Clarke returning for a second spell as
manager following the departure of Inigo Calderon, while the Gas have completed seven new signings so far,
including Luke Southwood, Macaulay Southam-Hales, Alfie Kilgour and Josh McEachran.
Although Rovers have strengthened their midfield and defence, their major issue during their drop down the table
last season was a lack of goals. According to reports, the club admires Langstaff, who Clarke is still looking for as a
number nine.
Langstaff scored an incredible 29 goals in 49 games during his final season in League Two for Notts County, and if
the Gas could win the race for his signature, it would revolutionise their chances of promotion. However, it may be
challenging to finalise a deal for him, especially given the intense interest in League One.
