Callum Jones on why Dundee was his first choice after leaving Hull City

Callum Jones on why Dundee was his first choice after leaving Hull City.

The midfielder made his Dark Blues debut midweek. Callum Jones says positive conversations with Gordon Strachan and Steven Pressley convinced him that Dundee was the right place for him to advance his career.

The 24-year-old is looking for a permanent home after his six-year stint at Hull City ended. Much of that time was spent on loan with clubs such as Morecambe, Forest Green, and Grimsby.

He has now secured a permanent move to the Dark Blues, signing a two-year contract and making his debut against Bonnyrigg Rose in midweek.

Callum Jones“I think it will be competitive so I want to showcase myself for the team and be the best I can be.

“As a team we hope to have a successful season.”

Number one choice

Jones also believes that new head coach Steven Pressley’s strategy for the upcoming season will be suited to his abilities.

The Dark Blues have one more League Cup group stage match to play before the season begins.

Montrose travel to Dens Park on Saturday for a dead rubber, as both teams are already out of the competition.

The Premiership season will then begin, with Hibs calling. Jones is looking forward to that type of contest.

When asked about his move to Dens Park, Jones responded, “I had conversations with Gordon Strachan, my agent spoke with the manager, and I spoke with the manager myself.” “I think his style of play and principles are excellent.

Those conversations were very positive. “Coming here gives you a platform; I don’t think people realise how much coverage the league receives or the calibre of the opposition here. “So, when the opportunity arose, I immediately thought of playing in Scotland.

“I had a few options, but this was the first when I realised it was possible.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity, with plenty of exposure, big games, and the best level in Scotland. “I’m looking forward to seeing what’s on offer.”
