Group behind refurbishment of Barcelona’s Camp Nou set to build 25,000-seat stadium for former Premier League club

Group behind refurbishment of Barcelona’s Camp Nou set to build 25,000-seat stadium for former Premier League club.

The new stadium’s opening date has been announced.

A former Premier League club’s new stadium will be built by the same group that renovated Barcelona’s Camp Nou for £1.25 billion.

Barça hired Turkish contractors Limak to modernise their iconic stadium, which is currently under construction.

The company has now signed a contract with Luton Town to build their new 25,000-seat stadium. Work at Power Court is scheduled to begin this summer, with the club set to move in for the 2028-29 season.

Stunning designs show a “halo” floodlight system hanging above the pitch, a cutting-edge hospitality area, and the Hatters want it to be able to host concerts.

Luton will leave the 12,000-seater Kenilworth Road stadium, where they have played since 1905. It comes despite the club’s relegation to League One from the Premier League in consecutive seasons.

Luton manager Gary Sweet stated, “This is a transformative opportunity for the Club, helping us realise our ambitions to be a Premier League club again one day.”

“We agree with the fans that a new stadium is necessary to propel Luton Town forward, and we are thrilled to be entering this exciting construction phase.

“More importantly, this new stadium project connects us to our community by bringing jobs and investment as part of the area’s overall regeneration.

“Partnering with Limak, a company with international standing, provides us with a global perspective while delivering locally. “We will work closely with them to ensure that the stadium captures the spirit and needs of the community.

“It has been a long road to this point, but we are so excited at the prospect of welcoming our supporters to Power Court in the near future and the ability to extend our support base and enhance our unique match-day experience.” The Power Court Stadium is Limak’s first job in the United Kingdom.

They currently have projects in 14 other countries and have previously built stadiums in Turkey.

Limak claims to have been approached by other English teams about renovating other grounds. Meanwhile, Barcelona’s Camp Nou modernisation has been delayed once more, and the club risks starting another season away from their spiritual home.
