Gustavo Hamer has been connected with Leeds United for some time now, and with the Whites’ promotion to the Premier League and Sheffield United’s defeat in the play-off final, a transfer to Elland Road may finally be a reality.
Gustavo Hamer has been Daniel Farke’s objective since last summer. And, as the summer transfer window approaches, Leeds United’s interest in Hamer has been reignited and fueled by Sheffield United’s Championship play-off final defeat to Sunderland.
Earlier this summer, it was reported that Hamer preferred a move to PSV Eindhoven, who have expressed a strong interest in the Dutchman. However, further reports revealed that Hamer would prefer to transfer to the Premier League this summer, sparking speculation that he could join Leeds United.
And there’s more news on Hamer’s future, but it doesn’t look good for Leeds United, who could miss out on the 2024/25 Championship player of the season.

Leeds United in negotiations to recruit Gustavo Hamer from Sheffield United
An emerging report from Dutch outlet Soccer News has indicated that PSV remain confident of signing Hamer this summer, but stress that Hamer is inclined to join a Premier League club with the likes of Leeds United and fellow promoted side Burnley among the pursuers.
However, Soccer News claims that Hamer ‘isn’t instantly interested’ in joining either Burnley or Leeds this summer, implying that Leeds are in fact in talks to recruit the former Coventry City player, but that ‘negotiations haven’t been moving well’ thus far.
Last season, the 28-year-old Hamer scored 10 goals and assisted eight others in 44 Championship games for the Blades, who have since changed managers with Ruben Selles in charge. Selles has not ruled out Hamer departing Sheffield United this summer.

The latest on Emi Buendía joining Leeds United, as Gustavo Hamer discussions stall.
This month, it was reported that Leeds United will sign a new number 10, as well as a new winger and striker, after fully strengthening their defence and midfield. According to reports, Leeds United are close to signing Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri.
However, Hamer’s move appears to be slowing down. This latest claim, combined with the fact that Leeds United have yet to make a concrete proposal for the player, shows Farke does not believe a deal is likely.
Instead, someone like Emi Buendia might quickly become a target for Leeds. Leeds United have been linked with Buendia all year, but recent reports suggest that Leeds have yet to make a formal approach to sign Buendia from Aston Villa, who is free to leave Villa Park this summer.
Who ends up in the number 10 position remains to be seen, but fans are determined that Brenden Aaronson does not play a significant role in the Premier League next season.
