Reading and Port Vale strengthen bond with generous ticket offer

Reading supporters are being given a discount for their trip to Port Vale this season in recognition for their fundraising efforts last year.

Despite being hundreds of miles apart, the Royals and Port Vale have been united since a match between the two teams was called off in January 2024 because of irate home fans at SCL Stadium.

The Valliants supported their hosts that day and enthusiastically praised the demonstrations against Dai Yongge, even though they had invested time and money to travel and only witnessed less than 20 minutes of action.

Reading fans reciprocated by contributing around £10,000 to a project to erect a statue of the renowned Vale manager John Rudge, who attended the postponed game in 2024 and helped Reading win handily.
The monument has been finished and placed outside Vale Park. Since Darren Moore’s team has returned to League One at the first attempt, the Staffordshire team wants the game on February 21, 2026, to be a celebration, and admission for adults is only £10.

“We’re really happy to be able to confirm this ticket offer in plenty of time, ahead of our League One season,” stated Chief Executive Matt Hancock.

“This is a terrific idea for Vale supporters and a nice nod to the Reading fans with whom we have a good relationship. We know that February fixtures can frequently be frigid to say the least, and that money might be tight after Christmas.

“It’s also a great example of the collaborative work we’re doing with the SAB, which I know will go from strength to strength over the course of the next 12 months.”

“I’m really happy that Port Vale has accepted our recommendation to provide this ticket deal for the Reading game at Vale Park,” said Mark Porter, a member of our SAB acting on behalf of the Vale Supporters Club. This is a gesture of gratitude and solidarity with Reading supporters and their new era under their new ownership, in addition to a thank you to our incredible fans for their unwavering support, particularly during the John Rudge statue campaign.

“When our initial installation was abandoned and Reading supporters donated money for the statue, we still remember how they behaved with true dignity. Both clubs have undergone significant off-field changes since then.

“We cherish the bond that has developed between our two clubs and sincerely hope it keeps growing. This matchup is a fantastic chance to unite supporters in a spirit of respect and encouragement.
