Leeds United interest in Sheffield United star latest as negotiations claim emerges

Leeds United are apparently yet to hold “smooth” negotiations to recruit Gustavo Hamer from Sheffield United.

Leeds were interested in the 28-year-old last summer, seeking to lure the feisty midfielder away from his Yorkshire rivals.

Instead, he stayed at Bramall Lane, helping Sheffield United reach the Championship play-off final but failing to lead the Blades to victory at Wembley Stadium.

Since the club was relegated to another season in the second flight, speculation over Hamer’s future has been rampant. Leeds are reportedly interested, and Everton and PSV Eindhoven have also been mentioned.

Leeds United has expressed interest in Sheffield United’s key player

According to Dutch publication Soccer News, smooth conversations about a move to Leeds have yet to take place. He is said to be eager to move to the Premier League, but the report suggests he is not immediately interested in a move to Leeds.

While a move for Hamer does not appear implausible, the report indicates that he is not looking to force a move away from Bramall Lane.

This might have a significant impact for Sheffield United, who are less likely to be lowballed if Hamer does not kick down the exit door.

How could Gustavo Hamer fit in at Leeds United

Hamer is a center midfielder by trade, and Leeds has already made major investments in two new central players.

Sean Longstaff has moved to Elland Road from Newcastle United, and Anton Stach has joined from Hoffenheim.

However, the Brazil-born former Netherlands youth international was frequently utilized out wide by Sheffield United previous season.

He can also play attacking midfield, and his versatility is likely one of the main reasons the Whites are interested.

Last season, Hamer had 10 goals and eight assists in 46 games across all competitions.
