Concerns regarding an Albion player whose most recent preseason appearance was cut short have been allayed by Fabian Hurzeler. Behind closed doors at Lancing, Diego Gomez continued as a halftime substitute in the team’s 2-0 victory over Coventry City.
Less than 20 minutes later, however, he was replaced in a rush of adjustments. Gomez took a leave of absence due to illness, according to head coach Hurzeler, and he anticipates seeing the Paraguay midfielder return to practice on Monday. Carlos Baleba, who was also not present when UD Las Palmas was defeated last Monday, and Danny Welbeck did not attend the most recent run-out.
Ferdi Kadioglu’s first appearance since last October following toe surgery seems to be one of the afternoon’s highlights. “It was an excellent workout and is a good continuation of our pre-season preparations,” Hurzeler stated.
“The guys who participated all showed up without any serious complications, while a couple were absent due to minor issues. “We expect everyone to return within the next week or so, with the exception of Adam (Webster) and Solly March, who are taking a few weeks off due to intense training.”
Next Saturday, Albion will travel to Southampton, a Championship team. A week before the Saints’ league debut at home against Wrexham, the team may pick up the pace in that match as they try to impress their supporters under new manager Will Still.
