How Charlie Kelman’s departure from QPR for Charlton Athletic affected Lyndon Dykes

With one year remaining on his Loftus Road contract, QPR chose to cash in on the American, accepting a deal that might reach £5 million if all add-ons are fulfilled. The 23-year-old is eager to give the Championship a serious attempt.

| Competition | Appearances | Goals |
| League One | 46 | 21 |
| EFL Trophy | 5 | 2 |
| FA Cup | 4 | 1 |
| League One Play-offs | 3 | 2 |
| EFL Cup | 3 | 1 |
Kelman expressed his excitement on Instagram about starting the next phase of his career at The Valley. After making an impression at League One level the previous season, he joins players like Tanto Olaofe, Rob Apter, and Sonny Carey in moving to Charlton. Former Hoops forward Lyndon Dykes was among the several players who left congratulations for Kelman in the post’s comments section.
Kelman wrote on Instagram after relocating to Charlton that he was “so blessed and thankful to be here.” Dykes, who shared the pitch with Kelman while he was at QPR, also offered good wishes in the comments, as did Leyton Orient players Sonny Perkins and Brandon Cooper.
“Good look bro,” is the only three words Dykes left to express his support for his old teammate. Like Kelman, the 29-year-old will return to the second division this season after making 165 appearances at Loftus Road before to joining Birmingham City last summer.
The Scottish international scored 37 goals in those 165 games. In contrast to Dykes, who fell below players like Jay Stansfield and Alfie May in the Birmingham hierarchy, Kelman will undoubtedly be hopeful that his career may advance after leaving QPR. Dykes missed the last two months of the season due to a calf injury, and he only made nine League One starts for the Blues last season.
Kelman will compete with players like Matty Godden and Tanto Olaofe for Nathan Jones’ starting striker spot, and he should have no trouble taking it over if he can maintain his goal-scoring ability from the previous campaign into 2025–2026. His prior second-tier record is something he won’t have to carry to his new team. Despite being offered bench appearances at Loftus Road during the first half of the 2021–2022 and 2023–2024 seasons, Kelman was unable to contribute.
