This summer, Gent will be hoping Everton can finalize the transfer of Malick Fofana, a promising winger from Belgium.
With the teams in advanced negotiations, it appears that the now-20-year-old will leave French football to join Everton of the Premier League.
According to HLN,Gent is in unfamiliar territory because there isn’t any European football this season. The team has become used to playing continental football each season, but Ivan Leko now has to return European football to the team on a somewhat smaller budget.
Although the team has sold a few players this summer, 20% from Fofana’s transfer would be very appreciated. The contract with Everton should be worth more because Lyon paid €17 million to recruit Fofana in January 2024.
The season started off with Gent losing to Sint Truiden 3-1. By the end of the transfer window, they hope Leko has assembled a team that he is satisfied with and that can contend for the top six and European spots.
