Sheffield United transfer notebook: Djibril Soumare delay, Wrexham’s Kieffer Moore plot, and Ruben Selles hope
Ruben Selles hopes to reveal the latest addition to his Sheffield United squad “soon” as the Championship season approaches. The Blades are reportedly closing in on a deal for Djibril Soumare, a Senegalese midfielder now at Portuguese club Braga.
The delay in securing his signing as a de facto replacement for Vini Souza following his sale to Wolfsburg is thought to have been due to obtaining a visa for him to work in England, with Selles alluding to that particular frustration in his post-match interview following the Blades’ friendly win over Chesterfield last weekend.
United are reportedly looking for a loan deal for Soumare, which may become permanent if the club wins promotion to the Premier League during his stay in South Yorkshire. United have also been linked with a move for Everton’s Tim Iroegbunam, a former Aston Villa player.
“As a manager, you always try to get the players you want as early as possible, because that means you have the entire pre-season to work with them,” Selles said of his summer recruitment. “So the sooner the better, but the market is constantly changing, and you can’t always control it.
“The boys who have come in have done an excellent job, and we have a really solid team. Yes, I wanted players sooner, but I accept that this is the way it is. It takes longer in other instances. But in that case, we’re managing right now, and it should be soon.”

Sheffield United transfer notes amid Djibril Soumare snag and Wrexham’s Kieffer Moore plan
Selles also refused to be pulled too much into Wrexham’s interest in striker Kieffer Moore, which was first reported in The Star last week. The Welsh team is preparing for the Championship after a stunning run of recent success, with journalist Alan Nixon reporting this week that they are willing to spend up to £4 million for Moore and pay him roughly £30,000 per week.
If a bid around that amount is received, it will undoubtedly be appealing to United, as the player will turn 33 before the start of the new season and has two years remaining on his Blades contract. For the time being, United are preparing for the new season with Moore in their attacking lineup alongside Tyrese Campbell, Tom Cannon, and rising star Ryan One.
Former United midfielder Lee Hendrie told Football League World that Wrexham are an up-and-coming team wanting to strengthen their roster. I don’t believe [Moore’s salaries] will be an issue for them.
“Obviously, the fear factor in all of this is FFP and the rest of it, but they’ll have smart business people behind the scenes looking at it, and I don’t think wages will be an issue at all.
“They’ve been associated with Jamie Vardy, potentially paying him a lot of money, and they’re a wealthy club that can easily afford it. It does catch up with you, but if they want Moore, they will work hard to make it happen, and it would be an excellent signing.”
