Reading FC compete with League One clubs to sign striker

Among the teams vying for Devante Cole’s services this summer is Reading FC.

The 30-year-old is a target for the Royals, who are in dire need of expanding their attacking options.

Other League One teams, such as Port Vale, who were promoted from League Two the previous season, pose a threat to them, nevertheless.

Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, who has mostly played on the wing but can sometimes play centrally, is Reading’s only recognized striker at the moment, along with loanee Mark O’Mahony.

Reading has looked into the possibility of signing Cole, but as they go closer to completing a deal, it seems like Port Vale is his top choice.

Reading manager Noel Hunt has acknowledged that the team is “short” in attacking areas right now, and the management is still actively looking to add players to try to address that.

Cole began his career at the Manchester City youth and has extensive EFL experience, mostly in League One.

In addition to spending the previous season in the Championship with West Brom, he has played for Barnsley, MK Dons, Bradford City, Fleetwood Town, Wigan Athletic, Burton Albion, Motherwell, and Doncaster Rovers.

After scoring 15 league goals the season before, he scored 18 goals in 46 appearances during his most productive season with Barnsley in League One in 2023–2024.
