Birmingham City target completes £8.5m transfer after outscoring Florian Wirtz
It is no longer possible to doubt Birmingham City’s pulling power given the arrival of Kyogo Furuhashi, Bright Osayi-
Samuel, and Tommy Doyle to St Andrews.
Doyle, a Wolves loanee, chose to make the quick journey from the Black Country to the Second City over Premier
League interest.
Former Queens Park Rangers flyer Osayi-Samuel returns to England’s second tier after deciding to leave Jose
Mourinho’s Turkish powerhouses Fenerbahce.
Kyogo Furuhashi, meanwhile, swaps Champions League football with Celtic in 2024 for Championship football
with Birmingham City in 2025.
There have also been links to two forwards from Spain’s top division. Bojan Miovski, Girona’s former Aberdeen
striker, is reportedly a target, and Carlos Vicente, a talisman for Deportivo Alaves, is someone to keep an eye on,
according to EFL Analysis.
But in Shuto Machino’s case, even for a Birmingham team with Premier League designs and the bite to go along with
their bark, this goal might have been a tad too lofty.
This mistake serves as a reminder that not all targets are willing to drop a tier, but it won’t lessen the enthusiasm at
St Andrews.
Borussia Monchengladbach sign Birmingham City target Shuto Machino
Birmingham City were linked with Shuto Machino by Give Me Sport at the end of June.
He was one of German football’s standout players the previous season. Even though Holstein Kiel was relegated from
the Bundesliga, Machino scored 11 goals in 23 starts, which was more than the combined totals of RB Leipzig’s Xavi
Simons and Lois Openda as well as Liverpool’s new £116 million record acquisition Florian Wirtz.
While Holstein Kiel ended 17th in an 18-team league, a brace in an exciting 4-3 victory over Monchengladbach
ultimately meant little, but it helped pave the way for Machino’s eventual £8.5 million transfer to the Borussia Park
team.
Gladbach confirmed the signing of the eight-time Japan international this week.
“We have a lot of options in attack because Shuto is a versatile striker who can play a variety of positions,” Roland
Virkus, Borussia’s managing director for sport, said on the team’s official website.
“He demonstrated last season that he can score ten goals or more in the Bundesliga. That he has been selected to join
Borussia makes us very happy.
Machino would subsequently say, “I’m happy that the move has now gone through because I really wanted to join
Borussia.” “I want to help the team as soon as possible, so I’m doing everything I can.”
Carlos Vicente talked up as Birmingham eye Alaves and La Liga wideman

flanks or through the middle.
Chris Davies and company still seem to be looking for versatile forward options, even after Osayi-Samuel and
Demarai Grey made an emotional return to St Andrews from Saudi Arabia.
Carlos Vicente, who was mentioned earlier, believes he has a broad enough skill set to succeed in England. Terry
Gibson inclined to concur as a La Liga specialist extols the virtues of the Birmingham target.
“Yes, I enjoy seeing Carlos Vicente. On El Tel and Jon’s La Liga Weekly podcast this month, Gibson, a former
attacker for Manchester United and Tottenham, stated, “I think he’s fantastic.” “Losing him would be a devastating
blow to Alaves.
Would he depart from Alaves in order to travel to Birmingham? He most likely makes more money at Birmingham
than he would at Alaves, based on my estimation. If the deal is right, I believe it might happen.
“A positive attitude, hard work, and the required skill are required. He has grown somewhat of a favourite of mine
over the past few years. So, if they get him, that’s wonderful news [for Birmingham fans].
