Leah Williamson mural updated after Euros win

After the Euros victory, the Leah Williamson mural was updated.

The win of England at Euro 2025 has led to an upgrade of a mural that shows Leah Williamson in her community. In 2022, when the Lionesses had already won the championship, the tribute to the England captain was painted at Farm Garages in her hometown of Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, by street art group MurWalls.

The phrases “history maker,” “double European champion,” and “so nice she lifted it twice” have now been added to the mural. According to Mr. Meana, the MurWalls artist who updated the piece, “The first England captain to lift a major trophy twice, and to do it overseas, kind of speaks for itself really.” An unnamed painter claimed to have tried to “tidy it up” by whitewashing a portion of the painting in May.

After residents raised £1,000 to have it repainted, it was eventually repaired. Williamson attended a reception held by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner at Downing Street on Monday with the England women’s football squad. MurWalls has been hired to paint murals of additional lionesses such as Alessia Russo, Lauren James, Mary Earps, Millie Bright, and Chloe Kelly.

On the side of Watford’s cherished Vicarage Road, they also erected a sizable portrait of Elton John. Speaking on the Newport Pagnell painting, Mr. Meana stated: “Everyone has shown it love and has truly appreciated it.” “Just talking to the local people, you hear how much it means to them and how much she means to them, and it’s just a beautiful thing to be a part of.”
