Japhet Tanganga has made 40 appearances in all competitions this season.
MILLWALL have offered Japhet Tanganga a new contract, Lions director of football Steve Gallen confirmed in a Fans’ Forum on Monday, July 28.
Tanganga has become a vital part of Millwall’s squad after an outstanding first full season at the club, making 40 league starts and being named the club’s Player of the Season.
The defender signed with the Lions as a free agent last summer, following a half-season loan at The Den, and Gallen confirmed that a release clause was included in the contract, which was not the club’s preference. He also confirmed that there was interest from other clubs, although no Premier League team have bid for him yet.
There were concerns that Tanganga would leave the club six weeks ago, and the club respect his Premier League ambitions and do not want to block them; however, the defender is still with the club, and Gallen said he is happy amongst the squad.
The club are encouraging him to stay, however, if he does go, they have plans to cover his departure.
Tanganga first joined Millwall on loan in January 2024, before signing a permanent deal that summer after being released by Tottenham Hotspur.
Tanganga has made 61 appearances for the Lions so far.
Tanganga came through Spurs’ academy and made his debut for the first team in September 2019 in the EFL Cup, before making his Premier League debut against Liverpool in January 2020. The defender went on to make 50 appearances for Tottenham.
He joined Bundesliga side Augsburg on a season-long loan with an option to buy in September 2023, but was only named to one match-day squad and returned to Tottenham that January, before joining Millwall.
