Report: Sunderland set their sights on signing forgotten Chelsea player after Marc Guiu

Sunderland have completed a loan move for Chelsea striker Marc Guiu, but there’s another youngster they may want to swoop in for.

Both Marc Guiu and Chelsea will be pleased with this loan deal. The 19-year-old has had some promising moments since joining the Blues from FC Barcelona, and despite Enzo Maresca’s plenty of striker alternatives, Guiu is a player for the future, not one who should be sold permanently.

Some Chelsea fans are skeptical of the agreement, citing the level of competition Guiu will face at Sunderland.

But it’s a far cry from the situation at Chelsea, where the acquisitions of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro have made breaking into the first team practically impossible.

Sunderland’s interest in the Chelsea team continues, with fresh reports indicating an interest in another Chelsea attacker.

According to the Daily Mail, Sunderland was interested in Deivid Washington before the Guiu move. Washington joined Chelsea from Santos for £17 million in 2023, but his career has not gone as planned.

With all of Chelsea’s attacking alternatives, including the probable signings of Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho, there appears to be no room for Washington in the squad, making this a realistic transfer for all sides.

The fact of football financing in 2025 is that to make enhancements, you must be willing to lose something. That is undoubtedly the case with Chelsea’s attacking line.

Although arriving matters are often more exhilarating, exiting matters might prove more challenging to manage.
