Reading are ‘more than ready’ for season – Wing.
New Reading captain Lewis Wing has stated that his team is “more than ready” for the start of the new League One season.
The Royals’ season begins on Saturday, when they travel to Lincoln. Boss Noel Hunt named Wing as the new club captain earlier this week, succeeding Andy Yiadom. “I can’t wait to represent this football club and lead by example,” Wing told BBC Radio Berkshire.
“I’ll be setting the standard day in and day out; we’re more than ready for the weekend; we’re just fine-tuning the last few details now, and we’ll be ready by three o’clock on Saturday.
“We need a couple of extra bodies in but we’re in a good place, we’ve knuckled down so far and I think we have more than enough in this squad to succeed this season.”
If Wing plays on Saturday, it will be his 100th appearance with the Royals since signing in the summer of 2023.
He has 22 goals and 21 assists in his career at Select Car Leasing Stadium. He appeared in 50 games across all competitions last season as Reading finished seventh in League One, three points behind Leyton Orient in the play-offs above them.
This season, the Royals midfielder hopes the team can go one step further.”If a club of this size didn’t want to get into the play-offs then that would be worrying,” according to him. “But us as players, the staff and fans have to get excited and get ready because we believe that we can get into these play-offs.”
After facing Lincoln on Saturday, Reading will play at home against Huddersfield Town before facing Championship side Portsmouth in the EFL Cup at Fratton Park.
