Sheffield United has made a formal offer to striker Oli McBurnie and is waiting for his reaction, despite interest from Ipswich Town, Hull City, and Swansea City.
Sheffield United are looking for more attacking alternatives for the upcoming season and have decided to try to reconcile with former striker Oli McBurnie, who is a free agent after his contract with Spanish club Las Palmas was cancelled at the end of the 2024-25 season.
The Blades have already lost two strikers since the end of last season, with Ben Brereton-Diaz returning to Southampton at the end of his loan spell and failing to reach an agreement with Rhian Brewster, who has agreed to join Derby County, while Kieffer Moore is also set to join Wrexham.
Blades aim for McBurnie breakthrough ahead of Ipswich, Hull, and Swansea

According to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield United has extended a contract offer to Oli McBurnie and is awaiting his reaction.
However, there is no assurance that the 29-year-old striker will return to Bramall Lane.
Several other Championship clubs, notably Ipswich Town, Hull City, and Swansea City, are also interested in signing him and may make offers. The Kieffer Moore incident makes the situation even more critical for Sheffield United.
The new Championship season is only a few days away, and the Blades cannot afford to be without attacking alternatives when they face Bristol City on August 9.
McBurnie is an attacking solution that Ruben Selles may need
Sheffield United barely missed out on promotion at the end of the 2024-25 season, falling behind Burnley and Leeds United in a three-way race for two automatic promotion spots before losing in the Championship play-off final to Sunderland.
With the Championship looking challenging for the upcoming season, significant changes have already occurred behind the scenes at Bramall Lane, with manager Chris Wilder being replaced by Ruben Selles in June.
However, they appear to be weak on the ground in attack, with two of last season’s forwards already leaving and a third on his way out. McBurnie could be the ideal choice for Selles.
He set the club’s transfer fee record in 2019 when they paid £20 million to Swansea City for him, and he lasted at Bramall Lane for five years before being released in 2024.

McBurnie signed with Spanish club Las Palmas last summer and spent a season there, but he was unable to keep his new club from relegation. His contract was mutually canceled, and he is now expected to return to English football. He’s an accomplished striker at this level of the game, and having spent five years at Bramall Lane, he’s familiar with the club. However, Sheffield United can only wait while McBurnie decides whether to return to the club or pursue his career elsewhere.
