Middlesbrough are in advanced talks to re-sign Chuba Akpom, two years after he left for Ajax. According to the Echo, Boro have put together a tempting package to bring the 29-year-old back to the Riverside.
However, Rob Edwards’ side will face off against Championship rivals Birmingham City, who are also interested in the forward. Akpom was Boro’s top scorer in the Championship in 2022/23 and a fan favourite.
In August 2023, he finalized a move to the Eredivisie for a reported €12.3 million with add-on fees.
“I’ll still be following the Boro from afar, and wish everyone connected with the club all the very best for the future,” he shared at the time.
Akpom joined Teesside from Greek side PAOK Salonika and made 82 senior appearances for the club, scoring 34 goals.
